Aberdeenshire-based 3D scanning specialists, Viewport3, have received an additional certification from Lloyd’s Register (LR), further strengthening their position as industry leaders in remote 3D inspection technology. The new validation confirms Viewport3’s capability to perform Photogrammetry-Based Advanced Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) across subsea, topside, and aerial environments for ships, offshore structures, and other classified assets.

As the first and only company to have been validated against Lloyd’s Register Materials and Qualification Procedures for Ships Book N, 17-3 for 3D photogrammetry (Photogrammetric Inspection), this achievement marks a significant milestone for the business. The Advanced Non-Destructive Examination bracket contains a wide range of varied methods and tools is more commonly aligned to processes such as Thermography, Computed Tomography, and Neutron Radiography. Being able to add Photogrammetric Inspection to that list is not only a major technical advancement, but also a testament to Viewport3’s innovation and expertise, reinforced by their validation and service supplier approval from Lloyd’s Register.

This latest accreditation builds upon Viewport3’s existing certification, which in 2023 made them the first UK company to gain LR approval for Remote Inspection Techniques (RIT) using underwater 3D photogrammetry for mooring chain dimensional inspection. Now, with an expanded scope of validation, Viewport3 is approved to carry out:

  • Structural Integrity Monitoring
  • Weld Inspection
  • Corrosion & Surface Analysis
  • Dimensional Assessments & Retro-Fit Design Qualifications
  • Anomaly Detection, Assessment & Analysis
  • Mooring Line Inspection & Analysis

Viewport3’s photogrammetry-based inspections leverage high-resolution digital stills, offering unparalleled detail, precision, and data density. Dimensional accuracy demonstrated at 0.03% and data-density in excess of 200 points / mm2 during Lloyd’s RIT classification trials underscores the reliability of their approach.

““Receiving this additional validation from Lloyd’s Register is another significant milestone for Viewport3. It reinforces the credibility of our processes and highlights the growing trust in our 3D inspection methods, solidifying them as high-accuracy 3D capture solutions for offshore and maritime applications. Our structured workflows, in-house expertise, and cutting-edge technology ensure our clients receive reliable, regulatory-compliant inspection data that enhances decision-making for classification, certification, and operational integrity. Our approach is further validated by a strong pull from the Norwegian sector where several key players commonly use our services.””

The new validation cements Viewport3’s reputation as a trusted provider of advanced remote 3D inspection solutions. By continuing to push the boundaries of 3D scanning and photogrammetry, the company remains at the forefront of innovation in the energy and maritime sectors, offering clients unparalleled accuracy and efficiency in asset integrity management.
